It's nice and cool in here, and somewhat more quiet. Rachael Kohn: This is such a beautiful place. Miten: Welcome, it's very nice to see you.
And there they are, the beautiful couple. Rachael Kohn: Ah this is beautiful, the gorgeous creek coming down towards this absolutely beautiful house. The day after the concert I sought them out in the idyllic Wilson's Creek near Byron Bay. And just about all the people who know them would agree, as Deva and Miten also lead workshops for couples. But Deva and Miten came through all that pretty unscathed, in fact they say with a much deeper appreciation of love and life. Deva and Miten were devotees of Bhagwan, and in a previous interview we discussed some of the controversies, like his wealth and his experimental attitude to sex. His followers were known as the Orange People for the colour of their clothing.
Rachael Kohn: Lois mentioned Osho, formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who was a controversial guru in the '70s and '80s. So it's like Deva Premal and Miten are like family for the people in this community. You know, we're all in this together, we've all gone through the evolutionary journeys together. They totally respect and honour and love them, yes. They come really originally from that Osho culture which is very, very big here. So in their relationship they're always focused on the divine, and then that love radiates out as a couple, and then that is shared with this whole community. To me they're the most sacred divine couple I have ever met, that divine love where they are both focused on God or the divine. Lois Hunt: This whole community absolutely loves them because this is their home, this is their spiritual home, and so whenever they come back we're just so grateful to have them here. Lois Hunt of Byron Bay, who had a popular spiritual radio program here, sums up the feelings toward Deva and Miten. There's no urban black worn around here, everyone's dressed in white or light colours, long hair flows, cheeks glow, there are smiles and hugs all round, everyone seems to know everyone else. Deva and Miten are the third in our monthly series, Couples: In the Light of Love, on The Spirit of Things. They're waiting for the golden couple of Byron Shire to take them on a musical mystical journey right here in Bangalow Hall. Rachael Kohn: The stage is set, people are milling around, awaiting the arrival of Deva Premal and Miten.
